This is a well-known Northumberland tune, sometimes played as a lullaby. It may derive its character from the peculiarities of the local northeastern bagpipe. John Bell noted the song at the start of the 19th century, but it wasn't printed until 1882 in the Northumbrian Minstrelsy.
