Cambridge NY Area Sessions
This is a list of the regularly occurring traditional music sessions within about 45 minutes of Cambridge NY that share significant overlap with the tune repertoire hosted on this website:
-
Hubbard Hall Tune Jam -- Every Tuesday 5:30pm-7:30pm in the Beacon Feed (aka Studio) building behind Hubbard Hall in Cambridge NY. The group focuses on learning traditional and modern Irish, Scottish, Shetland, Quebecois, New England, and locally written music by ear (this website was created for this purpose). Open to all levels of skill and all instruments, and each meeting is followed by a pot luck dinner. Join the email list for more information and announcements.
-
Cambridge NY Pan-Celtic Session -- Every Thursday 5pm-8pm in the Argyle Brewery's Cambridge NY location, in the old passenger railway station on Broad Street, across from the Cambridge Hotel. This is mostly a fast-paced session for moderately advanced players. The session features tunes and songs from (at least) Ireland, Shetland, Cape Breton, Quebec, and New England, with a smattering of Swedish, English, Eastern European, Appalachian, and locally written tunes, as well as some others. Tip money is collected to benefit local non-profits.
-
Saratoga Pan-Celtic Session -- Almost every Wednesday 7pm-11pm at The Parting Glass in Saratoga NY. This is a fun, open group of mostly amateur musicians that enjoy playing Quebecois, Scottish and Cape Breton, as well as Irish fiddle tunes.
-
Wayside Country Store Session -- The first Friday of each month from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm at the Wayside Country Store in West Arlington, VT. Gigue-a-Bit and Friends play traditional contra/other dance tunes for hostess and store owner Nancy Tschorn and her customers. Tip money collected is contributed to the Arlington Vermont Food Shelf.
-
North Adams Session -- Every Saturday 10:30am until 2 or 3pm at the Lickety Split Coffee Shop inside Mass MoCA. They play mostly Contra and New England fiddle music. Sheet music is OK. Beginners may find it challenging but all are welcome.
