This jig probably dates from around 1780, and is one of the most popular and long-lived of traditional 6/8 tunes in history. It is also known by the colorful names Off She Goes for Butter and Cheese and Up She Got and Off She Went. It has been widely published and recorded.
This tune recorded in 1969 by Denis Murphy & Julia Clifford as Lisheen Slide, on an album named Star Above the Garter, which seems to have become confused with the name of the tune. It probably originates from West Kerry in Ireland and is related to Jackson's Frieze Coat.
