Tune Information
Author: Traditional
Origin: Ireland
This is Irish reel was first recorded in 1973 by The Boys of the Lough, who learned it from fiddler and story-teller Mickey Docherty. It is also known under the title The Volunteer.
Marino is a district of Dublin and the Casino is actually an 18th century folly (decorative house) in the gardens of the since-demolished Marino House. Casino in this case is not a gaming establishment but 18th century Italian for "little house."
This tune was composed by Cape Breton fiddler Paul Stewart Cranford. He named it for a session that was once held at Kyle MacNeil's house on Union Street in Sydney, Cape Breton. Paul was also a lighthouse keeper at one time.
