This tune was named for Québec's Gaspé Peninsula to the south of the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. There is also a three-part version of it, with the C part based on Money Musk.
This tune was written in the 1920's by Fortunat Malouin (1870-1935). The original French language name is "Les Joyeuses Québécoises," which means "Happy Quebec Women." There is a 15-bar C part not included here that is rarely played.
